The West Melton Art Exhibition/ Event was established in 2005 At The Nut Point Gallery.

It started as an initiative of a small group of local artists and has now grown to a wider area and variety of artists from the South Island as well as Overseas Artists.

The aim is to promote and the arts onto decision makers in organizations and individuals involved in the art scene at Christchurch and anywhere else. The tradition started as an initiative around a small group of local artists in The West Melton Area at Selwyn District South Island New Zealand. In just a few years it has grown to a wider area and variety of artists, including some overseas exhibitors .

In order to make the venue even more attractive, the exhibition hosts established artists alongside emerging ones, and celebrates each year with a different well known guest exhibitor.

2006,Peter Caley, 2007 Clack Esplin, 2008 Ed Labadie, 2009 Richard Bolton, 2010 Tim Wilson, 2011 Ivan Clarke. Each year, the annual event starts off with a festive opening night open to invited guests.

The programme includes a guest speaker, usually by a government minister or a well know figure in the arts. Live classical music performers as well as bag pipe welcoming. The event has become an attraction of a high profile of individuals in the art scene from Christchurch  and Selwyn area, getting more recognition every passing year.

The Exhibition is held in the New Zealand High summer season, early in the year usually at February and carried on to the weekend following the opening night. www.nutpointgallery.com

TE ARIKI ART GALLERY

Paintings by Roselyn Cloake are often exhibited at Te Ariki Art Gallery.
Currently the gallery has the painting "Tribute to McCahon & Hotere". The painting was inspired by the great New Zealand painters Colin McCahon and Ralph Hotere. The quote "what would you do if you have no fear" has caused more emotion and discussion than any other painting.

Stuart Spurr is opening is new art gallery on Bank street Friday night 7pm.

I've have some pieces going in with work from Christina Mc Donald, Elizabeth Love, Stuart Spurr and Geoff Cloake.

This area is developing into an arts centre so it's all very exciting. And you'll notice some big changes since my Christmas exhibition. There will be a combination of my private collection (you may have seen prior to Christmas as dislocating my shoulder has put a stop to painting over the last few weeks...) And you will see the beginnings of my new "Icon" Series - Playing on Russian Icons with my Dutch windmill and NZ landscape subject matter.

Be really great to have your support on the night to celebrate the evening. There are a few people going. Stuart's got the piano out as well so we might even have a bit of a jam session, while you guys soak up the wine and refreshments so it should be a fun social night.
